About Gym Mathematics
Gym Mathematics (Matematyka Siłowni) is a project that blends science, mathematics, and training practice. Our mission is to replace guesswork with numbers: instead of gym folklore, you get calculation tools and plans grounded in recognised formulas and data from the scientific literature. The site is built for strength trainees — from beginners estimating their first calorie target to advanced lifters analysing tonnage, training density, or IPF GL points.
Our Methodology
Every calculator on the site is based on published, widely used scientific formulas — and we always state which formula is used. Examples:
- Energy expenditure: the Mifflin-St Jeor and Katch-McArdle equations (accounting for lean body mass) together with PAL activity multipliers.
- Maximal strength (1RM): the Epley, Brzycki, and Lombardi formulas, including a discussion of their limitations across rep ranges.
- Strength classification: the official DOTS, IPF GL, and Sinclair coefficients used in powerlifting and weightlifting competitions.
- Body composition: BMI, BAI, FFMI, and body-fat estimation methods (e.g. the US Navy method), always with their limits of applicability noted.
Meal plans are built around evidence-based protein recommendations for strength trainees (1.6–2.2 g/kg of body weight), a sensible energy deficit or surplus, and realistic products with cost estimates. Nutritional values are computed from food composition tables.
How Our Content Is Created
We value transparency: we use automation and AI tools to assist with content production, while the substantive backbone — formulas, coefficients, and reference ranges — comes from scientific publications and official sports federation regulations. Content is continuously reviewed and corrected; if you spot a factual error, let us know via the Contact page — we verify every report.
Sources We Rely On
- Peer-reviewed research indexed in PubMed (exercise physiology and sports nutrition),
- position stands of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) on protein, creatine, and energy balance,
- official rules and coefficient tables of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF),
- nutrition standards and food composition tables published by public health institutions.
